"A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself."

– Josh Billings

At Pyrenees Keepers, we are committed to giving Great Pyrenees dogs a second chance at life. We welcome dogs from all backgrounds—whether they've been abandoned, displaced from farms, or lost their homes due to circumstances beyond their control. Our goal is to provide a safe, loving environment where they can rest, heal, and thrive.

Our mission is to match each dog with the right home—or offer them a permanent sanctuary here at Pyrenees Keepers. Once a dog enters our care, our commitment is lifelong, even if it means they return to our country home for a time. Every dog deserves a fresh start, and we're here to make that possible.

Our Mission

RESET

rescue

we focus on the 4 R's with each dog:

Our Process

We take in Great Pyrenees who no longer have a house or farm to call home. Whether abandoned, living in a neighborhood on their own, or coming from working farms that are moving/retiring, we've seen it all. We don’t ask questions and we don’t pass judgement. We just welcome the dogs in with open arms, thankful to give them a safe place to call home!

REST

Their first few days with us are full of rest, and plenty of good food! We feed them a high protein diet, and usually sneak in a few extra snacks for them too – steak strips being the snack of choice! During this time we also make sure they are seen by a vet, become current on all vaccinations, start preventive medicine for flea, tick, and other bugs, and have them spayed or neutered.

REHOME OR RESIDENT

Next we work on training them at our country home. We assess how they get along with other dogs, livestock, children, and people! This step helps us determine if they are a good working farm dog, and if they are – which farm animals they do best with, or if they would do better living in a home. We take time to work and observe each dog and take good notes!

Last, we decide if the rescue Great Pyrenees should become a resident dog or if they are ready to move on with a new family or farm. This comes with a lot of consideration, as we want each dog that is adopted out to be a good fit for their new home. As life isn’t perfect, and sometimes we aren’t either, we will always welcome a dog back that just isn’t working out for any reason.

The Great Pyrenees is a truly unique breed, known for their gentle, protective nature, striking white coat, and strong instinct to guard both livestock and their loved ones, making them both devoted companions and keepers of your farm!
